VMAIL FOR Thursday
Optical Industry Mourns Terrorist Tragedy
NEW YORK--Along with the rest of the U.S., the optical industry was in
shock yesterday in the wake of the terrorist attacks against New York City
’s World Trade Center and the Pentagon, near Washington, D.C. Although at
presstime no one in the industry was known to have been injured or killed
as a result of the attacks, employees of several eyewear suppliers in the
metro New York area lost relatives or were awaiting word on the fate of
family members and friends missing in conjunction with the tragedy.
Luxottica’s retail division had three locations--a LensCrafters, a
Sunglass Hut, and a Watch Station--inside the World Trade Center. All
three were open at the time of the attack, but store personnel at each
location escaped unharmed, the company said. The U.S. headquarters of
American Bright Signs Optic Video, which markets the Smart Mirror system,
was on the 33rd floor of one of the Trade Center towers; although the
office was destroyed, president Antoine Toyon and other staff members were
not injured.
Following the attacks, Marchon Eyewear quickly moved to cancel TV spots in
its new Flexon ad campaign, which showed a plane flying over New York’s
Empire State Building; the company was also working to pull print ads
showing the same image from consumer and trade publications that had not
already gone to press.
Many optical chains and independents, including the Pearle Vision chain,
closed their stores across the country Tuesday afternoon to allow their
associates to grieve with their families. A number of ECPs and vendors
also organized company blood drives in the wake of the horrific events.
Optical stores in lower Manhattan--including Morganthal Frederics, Cohen’s
Fashion Optical, and Myoptics--remained closed through Wednesday, with no
word on when city authorities would allow them to reopen. In other parts
of the New York metro area, retailers and vendors reported communications
difficulties due to the heavy volume of calling in the area and the
destruction of cell-phone equipment housed in the World Trade Center. And
the financial implications of this tragedy continue to spread beyond the
immediately affected areas: the shutdown of all domestic and international
flights through Wednesday night crippled product deliveries nationwide,
for example.
Jobson Publishing’s New York headquarters in lower Manhattan remained
closed through Wednesday, but the company is operating and continuing to
gather industry news (problems involving air transport and the U.S. mail
may cause some delays in delivering Jobson Optical Group publications,
however). Communications regarding news for Vision Monday and VMail can be
directed to VM Editor Cathy Ciccolella via e-mail at
cciccolella@jobson.com.
Jobson president Bob S. Amato noted that the company stands ready to open
its communications channels for any and all appropriate uses to help the
industry share information in this time of tragedy.
Amid our lingering national sorrow, our thoughts and prayers go out to the
victims of this terrible tragedy and to their families and friends, both
in the optical industry and beyond.

The Nostradamus "prediction" is reportedly false, taken from his writings but totally out of context...a sentence here, a phrase there. It is also reportedly flooding the net.
I've studied Nostradamus' writings and I can tell this is almost certainly false. Nostradamus was never very specific in his 'prophecies'. His quatrains were so vague that they could be interpreted in many different ways,
In fact over the centuries, the same quatrains have been used over and over again to 'prove' he predicted Napoleon, Kaiser Wilhelm and Hitler.

Yup,
This "prediction" is floating around the net and has a date of 1654 on it. Nostradamus was not alive then.
This stuff will be floating around for a while now, just like Ms. Cleo. It's easy to read things into all kinds of situations or writings. Don't buy the hype.
Take care
Darris C.
I didn't say it was anything true...I just passed it along without comment.Pretty strange about the date however,...that was real for sure.
