Blue Jumper What is used to get different colors on AR........

There has been some discussions lately on different colors on AR coated lenses.

I have a list of the oxides that are used to achieve the different colors, which could help to understand this item and which you can see at:

For AR, most of the product used are SiO2, titanium oxyde, or Zirconium oxyde and some other one, but these are the most commun. But the color is made by the thickness of every layer, not by the product. The funny part, the same product can be use for mirror too. The thickness is the secret.

YEP, it´s the "soap bubble changes color with thickness" interference effect. The "bulk absorption" or residual color due to impurities etc. can be totally ignored for layers of a thickness less then a micron, also the materials used are usually of high purity. This is clearly different from *tinted* glasses etc.
