I was wondering about this today. Do you or your family have any phrases or words that are unique or unusual? Here are some my Grandmother always used:
Cattycorner (Sticking a piece of furniture into a corner but not flat up against either wall)

Pernt Near - As in "Almost". He pernt near died.

Davenport- another word for couch

Dungarees-Blue Jeans

Whispering “cancer” - My family always whispered this word as if it was a swear word.

...Than carter had Liver Pills.

He had more pimples on his face than carter had liverpills. (apparentky, whoever Carter was, he had a lot of liver pills...whatever they are!)
LANDSAKES ALIVE - As in "Oh My!"

you know that room of your house tha has the nice furniture that only gets used for company? Here in Chicago that's called a "fronchroom" Took me a few years to figure out it was "front room". I always knew it as a parlor
