"Hi! How are you?" - Virus Alert!!!!

    Hi! How are you?

I send you this file in order to have your advice

    See you later. Thanks
If you receive an email like this with a file attachment - immediately delete it! Whatever you do, don't open the attachment. It contains the SirCam virus. If you use Outlook or Outlook Express as your email program and you become infected. your computer will begin sending out the virus to everyone in your address book. I know - I've received over a hunderd of these emails over the last couple of weeks, including some from OptiBoarders (I must be in a lot of address books!)

There are a vast number of sites that explain this virus and how to get rid of it. Here's just one:

    http://www.uog.edu/cc/sircam.html

I just checked the above site and the download section isn't working. Here's another site where you can get the fix:

    Angry

Steve, I've had three more e-mails from the same "dennisb@prodigy.net" that sent me the first email with the sirCam virus in it...the last one subject was "Columbian Bifocal Contact Lens Specials"; deleted it when I saw who sent it! So watch for this subject too!

    Al,

I also got a bunch from dennisb - and one from you! Didn't you get my email? Your system is infected and needs to be cleaned.

i've gotten 10 of those so far. i have a general policy to never open attachments in e-mails though. i have deleted every one of them.

actually, i think i might have openned the first one. my e-mail client is browser based and i selected 'open from current location' so i think i'm ok. i don't maintain any address book on my local system. is there any way to scan my system for the virus to be sure?

    Jake,

As long as you didn't open the attachment, you should be ok. If you virus protection software, make sure it's up-to-date. I think the major programs can all detect this. If not, then you really should get some quick.
