WECO Trace 2 - Poor corners

Wasn't sure where to put this so I've put it in here, apologies if it's the wrong place.

We glaze using a Weco Trace 2 tracer and 2D edger, and have problems with the temple corners of certain, rather angular, shapes. Tracing as a left eye, or tracing the demo lens externally does improve things very slightly. We've put a new stylus on it which doesn't seem to have done much. It's calibrates properly etc, and we know the edger is capable as it can cut its preset squares etc fine.

Anyone got any words of wisdom? It's affecting quality somewhat, and means only myself and my one other experienced tech can glaze certain frames, as they need hand edging to shape.

    Cheers for any help

    Oli

There is a "bug" in the software-communication between TraceII an any 2D edger. On flat bevel you can grind perfect corners on memory stored shapes but on traced forms this looks like crap. Trace 2 was developed for 3D edgers and 2D never give perfect result.

Try pressing start twice on the tracer (display will blink) this switches off the safety mode and should bring some improvement.

Is that "2D" a Weco model edger? I don't recall it offhand. If so, are these connected to the current loop? If not, to what are they connected?

When we talk about 2D edgers we mean CNC-90, NC-90, W2D(newer model of CNC-90) 2 dimensionoal grinding
    3D edgers are ZET-90, W3D(new zet-90) W430, W450 etc. 3 dimensional grinding (controlled bevel)
    They are all CL currentloop
The newest edgers operate on OMA protocoll weco 330 350 and 550

Tried the idea of pressing start twice but it is no different. I was under the impression that pressing start twice made the tracer take less plot points?

It may not help with your edger, but my old Mark V would make better corners if I cycled it twice (ran the lens 2 times). I still did a crazy amount of hand edging though!

There's only so much information that can be embedded in 128 points (the number of points communicated under the current loop interface). Be sure that the tracer and edger are set to send and request wheel data, and not point data.

Some of the older Weco machines have "cells" containing parameters that control their operation. I may have a guide somewhere for one or more of the machines, but Weco might be the best source for the machines that you have.

It's not exactly a friendly user interface - you cycle through the numbered cells and set the appropriate cells to the right values to achieve the configuration you want. You just have to know which cells to set to what; you definitely need instructions.
