If mandatory healthcare insurance were to be fair then IMO it should be regulated and profits restricted (like power companies) or better yet - not for profit.

What will you do if someone in your family falls seriously ill? Though you are a young and healthy family do not for one minute think that you are immune to cancer, accidents, etc. My child (grown now) is a childhood cancer survivor. Without insurance we would have been buried in bills and I could not work but part time as I had to care for him also. I recently had surgery. Without insurance I would have been looking at 50,000.00 out of pocket. I'm sorry but I think you are taking a big risk. One medical catastrophe could ruin you financially.

I am so glad that your child survived and that you were insured at the time. However the numbers are in my favor that it is such a small percentage that something like that could or would happen.

The same question could be asked to you: What if nobody fell ill? When the odds are showing that this is more common I get confused when people think fatalistically.

The question is, how would you feel if you lost your son or daughter through something you could have prevented?

Honestly, we keep talking about high insurance prices. Brings me back to government provided system.

If you got rid of the insurance companies, it would not be much better. A lot of places only have one hospital. That means pure monopoly.

I'll be honest, I would not work for a company that did not offer some kind of health insurance, even a basic plan. I have lived long enough to realize that though you feel great today, tomorrow through no fault of your own you might be flat on your back with tubes up your nose, 10,000.00 in debt and wondering what hit you.

I hope nothing ever happens to you or your family, but in the case of a serious condition, al,ost no one could pay out-of-pocket! Please consider insuring your family in some form or fashion. I know of many cases of bankruptcy due to an unexpected medical need. I wish you well.

    Hi Hiram!!!

It might not be fair but, Massachusetts or any other state would pay for a critically ill child's care without a thought. We are a compassionate nation.
Me and the Misses are off in the morning to our 13th districts H.E.L.P. (Hospital Equipment Loan Program). This small local effort out of the Malden Masonic Temple loans at no charge wheelchairs crutches walkers and many other types of hospital equipment to those in need with only a promise to return it when no longer needed.

We get referals and donations from word of mouth, Visiting Nurses Assoc. etc. NO ONE is denied even if they may not be legally here (sorry Chip).

Is this socialist or communist medical care? Or is it just what The Prince of Peace preaches when we are admonished to treat others as we would like to be treated?
