45 year old female patient currently using traditional progressive lenses. She spends approx. 10 hours a day engaged in near visual tasks for vocational reasons; 75% computer, 20% reading and 5% for distance (to view 25ft). Assuming that the distance rx is -6.00 OU with an ADD of +1.50 (in this case).
I would normall use a HOYA Tact lens for those that require full distance rx, however I am trying to experiment with lens designs that may provide a wider field of view at near and intermediate viewing distances. I'm considering using the Shamir Office OPAL. With the Shamir Office lens, a +1.50 add will yeild a dynamic power of 1.25 at the top. Thus, the distance rx would have an effective add of +0.25.
I'm considering over-minusing the distance rx. by 0.25 (-6.25) while using a +1.50 ADD (effective add reduced to a total of +1.25), however in theory the distance rx would have an effective add of zero (0) in hopes of aiding her requirement for distance vision in her vocational environment.
Have any on this forum taken this approach? thoughts? experiences? warnings?
Thank you in advance for all responses.
