Santinelli's "Extra size mode" - what is it?

Does anyone know what the "extra size mode" is for in Santinelli's menu/software on their 9000 series edgers?

I don't think so, but I could be crazy. The machine scans each and every lens for cut out and bevel/groove placement before it starts the roughing cycle.

See if this might help your inquiry.... http://www.santinelli.com/support/FAQs/LE-9000/Quick%20Reference%20LE-9000.pdf

There is no referance on the quick referance chart for "Extra Size Mode" but there is one for "EX" mode. "EX" refer to Executive Bifocal"

Could it be for those lenses you want to cut one size larger.

For example if you were doing a drill mount. The demo is a 48 eye, but you want a 50 for proper fit?

The executive bifocal mode angles the bevel because the lens is thinner on the bottom, so it (more or less) adds pantoscopic tilt to the lens so the bevel will fit on it better.

Maybe I'll just break down and call someone.

No, NO! Don't take drastic measures yet. Asking for help (outside Optiboard) means that you're not a real man. You don't ask for directions when you take a trip, do you? Well then, don't start with your high-tech equipment. It's a slippery slope, and if you start down it one day you will wake up and be a woman. Smarter, yes; but a woman still.

Increasing the size in the "B" to help with the lack of fit you typically get with shallow "B" measurements.

Thats what i remeber when I worked for them... could be wrong.

Silly suggestion....cut one lens with it on, then a duplicate with it off and see if there's a noticable difference.

This assumes you have a warehouse full of lenses like Johns has. :D

Good Question snowmonster, The Extra Size Mode (usually set ON) will change the A & B sizes proportionally (1 : 1) when the operator increases or decreases the SIZ value. With it off, the A : B dimensions change 2 : 1.

Thanks for the clarification Stephen. I thought that's what Frank had told me some time past, and meant to confirm at the OLA. But got busy discussing the LEX... and smooth forgot.
