    Hyperopes and PAL's

We have a professor who is hyperopic and has been wearing round 22's. She will be getting progressive lenses soon. What types of PAL's would you recommend to this 58yo hyperope who reads and uses the computer a lot.

Definity seems to be a sure shot with most of the patients I've dealt with... I also have at least a dozen or so hyperopes in the same age range that did exceptionally well with Seiko Proceed II lenses (mainly because Definity is like a brick past +3.50, even in 1.67). GT2 has also worked well for heavy computer users, but I've had a couple complaints that the periphery in the distance is a little too soft.

Suggest 2 pair of spectacle, office PAL + varilux liberty PAL.

It is because age of 58 must have high add, all Traditinal PAL have little intermediate and near, when compare with bifocal.

Also tell her to change sitting posture if change to PAL, eg monitor, chair.

    hope this help.

Having worn a round 22 for sometime your professor may have a problem with the swim factor in progressives. You may want to provide something like the HOYA iD LifeStyle (or iD) since most wears report no swim with the lens.

Very true. The Professor needs a computer lens, Office, Access or rd22. For the round, the top would be distance +0.75 to +1.25 w/ a +1.00 or +1.25 add. I know drk would agree; because I got this info from him.

    Future reference...

While it won't help the intermediate I recently made through VSP a couple of rd28 from Three Rivers Optical I was stunned at how almost invisible the "lined" version was! It's also available blended and in almost any material out there.

I'm a hyperope, slightly younger and spend way-too-much of my free time at a computer (also monocular - amblyopic). Piccolo. I have tried many different PALs including Physio, GT2, Comfort, Unique. I really like the Piccolo. It is my lens of choice here in the office for nearly everyone with a fitting height of 20mm or less and I have few complaints and lots of people who like 'em better than what they were wearing before.

Well, I'm an almost 58 year old hyperope with a +2.50 add and (of course) I'm wearing a Micro. I also spend too much of my spare time online as well as sewing and reading. This is the most comfortable short-corridor I've ever worn and I've worn a lot of them over the years.

Yeah, Polycore pays me to promote their lenses, but the reality is that when I walk into your practice you don't know what I'm wearing, do you? If I say I'm wearing it, rest assured I am. If I say I like the lens, I do.

Life's too short to be uncomfortable, drink cheap Scotch or be anything other than happy. :D

Don't they still make a round top trifocal?

I see it in the lens book, still. But not on any lab pricelists.

You could use our ICE-TECH individualized PAL. Call 888-ICE-TECH for information. Wide corridor and no skew distortion.
