    Prism in Progressive

    Hello Everyone,

Has anyone had this RX and what to do?

Patient has a reading only RX:

    O.D. +2.00 +0.25 x 005 1.5 B.I.
    O.S. +2.25 1.5 B.I.

She wants to be able to see distance without having to remove glasses.

Dr. gives her a Progressive RX.

    O.D. -0.25 +0.25 x 005
    O.D. Plano

    Add +2.25 O.U w/no prism

Dr. suggests to patient that reading will not be as comfortable as S.V. reading.

Can you induce prism by modifying either patients P.D. or frame P.D. and in which direction?

    Phil

You might want to call the doctor and verify the Rx before making these.

Sure, you CAN induce the prism... the question is SHOULD you. I agree with Harry. Call that doc up before you do anything. Chances are, it's either a mistake on whoever wrote down the Rx... or the doc doesn't want the prism anymore. And in that case, you don't want to be putting any in. :)

The progressive RX is from the same Dr. Originally a reading RX. She changed it to a progressive without prism and said that it might not be as comfortable reading as the original reading RX.

I suppose I just want to make it as comfortable for the patient wearing the progressives while reading. Thus, wanting to induce prism.

But, will order without and see how the patient reacts to the lenses.

    Thanks, Phil

After reading this and your last post, I would ask the Dr. if the 1.5 is 1.5mm base in prism. If so it sounds like the Dr. was trying to say offset the RX 1.5mm in each eye for reading. (which is normal)

I have found you really have to watch the use of the word prism in this industry.
