    VEW vs VEE--cost

I'm headed to New york this weekend for a few days and am blown away by the hotel cost, very difficult to get anything under $350 per night.

Told a frame rep about this, he said here in Massachusetts people are starting to opt for Vision West in Vegas because even with airfare it's cheaper than going to New York. His company is also going stronger West because of this.

Comments on cost for people that have done both East and West?

I've done both for the last few years, and the reps are right, VEW is cheaper hands down!

    Vegas:

I stayed at a hotel that had a sitting room, a kitchen, a bedroom and 2 televisions, for $49, $49, & $69 per night. (They are slightly more on wkends) It was definitely not 4 star, but it was way nicer than any 3 star in NYC.

    NYC

Unless you want to share a bathroom (you don't!), you have no choice but to shell out $200 - $300 per night for a tiny room that you can barely turn around in. I stay on the upper West side, and Park Central is usually around $235 (a little bigger than others I've stayed), and the Excellsior is around $295 (very small, but clean).

That's not to mention that in Vegas you can get a decent meal for under $20, or a really great meal for around $75 (Thanks James!) In NYC, $40 buys you 3 egss, toast, coffee, and orange juice.

In Vegas, I don't mind lingering and checking out the whole show. In NYC, I spend 8 hours, and get out of town. Last time we stayed in Pa, in a really nice place for $129, and it was about an hour from the show. Worth every penny to get some peace and not get gouged everytime you turn around.

I stayed in the Holiday Inn Midtown on my last NYC trip at about $170 a night. It was pretty nice.

There are some really nice hotels across from the convention center on the New Jersey side were you get a room overlooking the river and a superb view of Manhattan for $ 125.
Cross the river by ferry in 10 minutes. Save the tolls and the $ 40.00 parking fee per day..

Why not pool resources and buy a block of rooms for a break. I am going to VEE this coming year and would be interested, anyone else?

Vegas rooms are cheaper because they compete for the casino business. (Whether the hotel has a casino or not, they still have to compete with the prices.) Also I have foung , going tyo comventions, that you can save an average of $30 a night if you don't tell the hotel you are with any convention. The rates are higher for convention goers. Check it out.

Sounds like a good plan Harry. I may end up going as well. If I go, I was afraid that I would have to sleep on a park bench(wouldn't be the first) or try to bum a couch off of Johns.

Vegas is definately less expensive Monday-Thursday. I'm headed to Vegas this weekend, we are staying at the Palms. Friday and Sat. nights it's $359 a night and Sunday night is only $109.

There are many private clubs in New York City where accommodations can be had for a song. We stay here for free with our membership.

In addition, the US Naval Institute and the US Marine corps League offer first class accommodations. Check our your schools alumni association for details.

The airfare wan't too bad last year, but I cheated on accomodations - I have some friends in Manhattan that lent me their apartment. I had no idea the prices were sooo high for hotels!

Food wasn't pricey because my friends knew all the cool local places to go. 3 of us ate in China Town, had drinks, appetizers, lobster and the works - $67.00

    Harry,

Herald square is also my favorite hotel. This weekend I paid $239 for a double room. They are in the process of remodeling, prices are going up. Their website is pretty good, but check out theprice increases.

Thanks to all for the New Jersey suggestions, but I like to stay in the city where I can walk quite a bit.
