Did Al Gore deserve to be awarded the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize?

Albert Arnold "Al" Gore, Jr. was awarded the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize (along with the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change) "for their efforts to build up and disseminate greater knowledge about man-made climate change, and to lay the foundations for the measures that are needed to counteract such change". Did he deserve this honor?

I should have also asked for an explanation for why people thought he did or did not deserve the honor. I initially thought that maybe global warming believers would say he did and that global warming skeptics would say he did not, but my impression is that Democrats will say he did and that Republicans will say he did not.

Once you look at the list of awardees since 1901, it's pretty obvious that US political affiliations are not the deciding factor.

I think there is a move to keep him in the limelight so he can run again. If he does he will beat out Madam Hillary or any other dem. He would probably ask her to run with him and I think she would.
