mmm!
Nobody heard of this machine?
or nobody wants to talk to me?
Al
I've never heard of it.
You may want to check with Jack at Optispares, he may know something about them.
I saw it at VEW. With about 20 other edger companies. I don't think Huvitz makes anything themselves. Someone made it for them. Like Indo or Essilor. I didn't check the edger price, but other Huvitz stuff seems a little overpriced to me.
I spoke with the sales rep at the expo as well. He gave me a extensive demo of the unit. It is made in Korea and according to the rep this model has been out for 4 years mainly in Asia and Latin America. When I saw the unit it appears to be very well built and did a good job of edging the lenses.
This edger has been on the market for at least three years. This was the first year I remember seeing it at Vision Expo in the US.
I have see it before in European shows. I can't remember if it was Silmo or Mido, maybe both.
I asked if it was OMA yet, and they said they were working on it.
It is not made by Essilor or Indo.
There are many machines that are used in other parts of the world that are not distributed in the US.
I work with a Huvitz edger for 4 month now. We are the first one to use it in the province of Quebec.
I work with Essilor and Nidek edger before and i think the Huvitz work great.
It's easy to use and very accurate.
It's less expansive than the other brand we can have here.
I think it's a very good machine.
Sorry for my english i hope this information can be usefull.
Thanks nckenpo,
Your English is perfectly understandable!

I, too saw them at VEW...
I also saw the Nidek equipment with the name Santinelli on it...
I looked at both more than once...
But I think I just kept seeing the same edger being moved from booth-to booth with different stickers.

I thought Santineli is what you call Nidek in the States or do you have both cos they look the same to me
Al
Santinelli has the "exclusive" rights to sell Nidek in the states.

Nidek and santinelli are the same product here the most popular are the LE-9000.
Very nice machine i try it at the last place i work.
We had a Huvitz demo to play with. To me it looked like a lot of nidek parts in the machine. It is very close to a 9000.
The only thing I did not like was the angle of the screen. On a normal sized bench you would have to be 7 1/2 feet tall to get the best straight to screen view. It is especially a problem under lights.
Other than that it was very impressive.
Hello Everyone,
We recently came across this thread and would like to contribute to the discussion. Our company, USOphthalmic, holds the exclusive distribution rights for Huvitz edgers in the United States and Latin America. We introduced the Excelon to the U.S. market at Vision Expo in Las Vegas last month and we are working diligently to build awareness about this edger's capabilities.
The Excelon edges all lens materials - glass, plastic, high-index, polycarbonate, trivex - and is capable of beveling, grooving, polishing, and safety beveling. It is sold with a three-dimensional frame reader/manual blocker and will soon be available with an auto blocker.
If you have any questions regarding the edger or would like to request information please do not hesitate to contact us. We are anxious to hear your feedback and will pass your comments on to Huvitz.
Thank you!

Hi! Kevin,
Do I get a free edger for starting this thread?
Alan:cheers:
Where is this edger manufactured and how do you plan on supporting it in the field?
Alan - While we appreciate that this is your thread, we don't think the U.K. distributor would be very happy with us if we started sending out gifts (we see that you are in London). Perhaps if you relocate here we can work something out!
The edger is manufactured in South Korea (some of the assemblies are Japanese). Although it is just being introduced here in the U.S. it has been sold on the Korean market for approximately 4 years.
As stated in our last post, we are located in Miami and have a technical team based here in our office. The edger is covered by the following two year warranty (extended plans are also available):
1. Upon contacting us to report a problem, if we cannot resolve the issue within 72 hours (via phone or by dispatching one of our technicians) we will immediately provide you with a loaned edger.
2. If we cannot fix the edger within 15 days we will provide you with a brand new edger.
After the first two years labor reverts to $99 USD/hour. Phone support is free for the lifetime of the product. We are also willling to train in-house technicians for customers who request it.
We hope this answers your questions.
Best Regards,
Kevin Mack
