Just Confused

I am not likely to buy a new vehicle any time soon but:
I keep seeing car adds mentioning terms like "crossover". I never even understood terms like "LS" and the like.
Does anyone know what these terms mean? I have found that car salesmen, who are prone to use these terms like they are something to brag about, when asked, don't seem to have a clue on most of them.

Crossover is a mix between a car and an SUV, LS usually understood as Luxury Sedan. Most of the letters usually have no basis and are not an acronym of a real name.


Mercedes: the Letter is the body style, whereas the number following represents the Liters C230 is a Mercedes C with a 2.3 Liter engine.

Lexus is exactly the same except where you see an "h" following the number. In the case of the RX400h the "h" means a hybrid car with an engine/electric motor that produces the conventional power of a 4.0 Liter, it is not a 4.0 Liter engine.

BMW, LIke to add something a little different by using a number instead of a letter to name the car and on top of all the other numbers they like to add "i" or "xi" or "c" thise are usually referring to the package of options on the car and the "c" is referring to a convertable ie 325ic is a 3 series bmw with a 2.5 liter engine and a convertable top.
