    Burton Lensometer

I have a model 2021 Burton lensometer that the table slides down on whenever I put a pair of glasses on it. I have called Burton and they say to send it in. Anybody have any idea how I can fix this myself? The manual says nothing about it and I can't find any tightening screws anywhere.

That's the one that looks like a Marco isn't it?
I had a similar problem with an old Marco, What I did was to disassemble it to find the pinion gear under the table. Since there was no way to tighten it, I first cleaned it with alcohol to remove all lubricants. This helped, but not much. SO I resorted to two things that worked well, until I gave it away to our satellite office.
    1. Insert handle of large screwdriver between the vertical table mounts.Heave to one side and slightly bow the posts. This makes it harder to go up and down.
    2. If that's not enough, then take pliers and garf the pinion gear up a bit so the gears don't mesh so perfectly.

There might be other, more nondestructive solutions, these worked for me.
    Your mileage may vary.

Thanks so much. I like destructive solutions so I will try option one first. If I had the option of another office, this baby would have been out of so fast.

Okay Dragon, you are my hero. Bent the leg a bit with screw driver and for good measure put a bit of loc-tite on the gears. Perfecto!! Now for my next question. The marking pins on my lenso have little white plastic tips on them. For the life of me I cannot get them to stay on. They split or just plain just fall off. Any ideas anyone? Thanks, Optowoman

P.S. while I am here, my avatar is driving me nuts. I forgot how to change it. Again, any answers much appreciated.

Hmmm, haven't had that particular problem so I have no destructive solution.:D:D
