Blue Jumper Need Help With Fogging Solutions

    Hi fellow professionals........
I got a pt in today that kinda baffled me. He is a ice hockey goalie
and brought in this outrageous helmet mask device he wears.

He won't wear c.l., has tried everything under the sun incl. soap on lenses? Wow, never heard that one. No relief for extreme fogging of gl. inside that mask. No problem when he skates on the floor as has a diff. helmet on. His trouble is there is no air circ. just standing there in the goal area.

Anybody think of anything old fashioned or time tested or run into this situation before? He said all the stuff , sprays etc. he has tried.

    Help please?

Not old fashioned...........unless 10 years on market sesons it to old fashioned, ............................

Clean lens.............spray on product, disperse it on surface with you fingers...............let dry a couple of minutes and then clean off and spread residue over lens surface. (It also comes in a creamy version)

Properly applied it will work 100% as well as on the ice or on diving glasses as, on the ski hill.

If that fails, build a small fan into the helment powered by a watch or similar battery. Fan need not be of significant size, probably something from micro-mark will do nicely.

Chris, I heard the cream version of that product is a better insulator. Is that true?

Try going to a local scuba shop. They have fog products that work very well. Or do what some of us do and spit on the lenses!

He needs to get his lenses micro-plated with gold and powered up by a battery to completely defog his lenses, like the astronauts' face shields.
Now to find someone to do that....:hammer:

In case you develop dry mouth when exited on the ice ...............save some spit in a small jar and rub it into lens when needed. :bbg:

It could be, but out of the total sold in this product there is only 2% in cream....................either it makes no difference or the other 98% have not discovered it yet.

I know it's a bit old school, but has the guy considered a wire mask?

Yeah, the old Dominik Hasek still may be a last recourse if this does not work.

I know you can find them at Walmart, and probably Target.

    Thanks for brainstorming

I appreciate all you giving me guildance and kicking it around. Apparently he cannot change out of a regulation mask but I did see it, he brought it
in and modeled it for me. It is a bit like a star wars Darth Vader thing but wire in the front. He just doesn't move as a goalie so he gets no circulation in there. I would just quit and watch with a beer but that is me.

Ok. Thanks for the Bausch and Lomb suggestion at Walmart. He did say he had tried everything..but one mans "everything" is not always "Everything" :D

Hcjilson, I look fwd to the product you are sending me to have him try, I still marvel at the generosity on this site.

Still any more suggestions are very welcome as I am checking in for more genius ideas daily.

Thank you so very much!

I was serious about installing a small fan. See Micro-Mark tools, stuff for model trains, etc. Can be done.

I do not think CSA would allow for the alteration of goalie equipment to install a fan.

For-Life: Do like I do most things that require inovation. Don't tell them.
If he does a better job a goalie, his team, teammates, and managers sure won't.
The little fans and electric motors for model trains don't make any noise.

Chip, wouldn't that be harmful to the user?

Those hockey pucks can go just as fast as a baseball. Plus, these guys get knees and elbows to the head. Not to mention the pile ups on top of them.

You get less hits from pucks if you can see them. In all things in life there are trade offs.

But you want to get hit by the puck. If you aren't hit by it, then it is going somewhere else, and that is probably the back of the net :D
