    Unusual frame request

Does anyone have any thoughts on a frame that contains no metal of any type in it's construction. An account has just had such a request and we cannot come up with anything that does not at least have metal in the hinges.Any ideas would be appreciated.

the only one I can think of is the Silhoutte drill mounts with the injected plastic parts. Though the nose pad may have metal.

Those look like the brand (not necessarily the style) worn by Jamie Hyneman from Mythbusters.

I had a lady come in, oh, 30 years ago or so when the Logo frames were just coming out. She had all the plastic pieces on her frame covered in aluminum foil, nose pads and temple tips. I asked her why and she said she was deathly allergic to all forms of plastic. I sold her a Logo Beta with cable temples, explaining to her that the nosepads were nylon, not plastic. I had been told they were nylon by our Logo rep. So she picks them up, is thrilled with them. Ended up putting another set of lenses in them a few years later. By then I had discovered the nose pads were, indeed, plastic, not nylon. She never had any adverse reaction to the plastic pads. I got the impression after a while that at least, her symptoms were psychosomatic, though I have since had people with real plastic allergies.

There used to be a couple of molded Nylon (Nylar) frames with possibly a metal pin in the hinge being the only metal involved.

Those were the 1st frames I thought of too. But they do use a metal post for holding nosepads. They also have a metel ring (non-exposed) molded to the end pieces to hold the temples.

    Optyl?

This is a dead give-away that I've been in the biz way too long. But are there still Optyl frames available? The original Optyl material had no metal anywhere, not even in the temples, as I recall. Just don't know if pure Optyl is still around.

I thought about that as well, but if I remember correctly they had metal hinges.

The Try change series from Allison contains no metals at all. It's all zyl with no screws on the hinges. Allison also has other all plastic frames that are not a 3 piece style.

Eyephorics have no metal at all. Similar to a Silhouette.

KSTaker beat me to the answer. Try Change and eyephorics are the answer. Both are surprisingly durable for nylon.

Safilo uses Optyl in several of the Dior styles. They do have metal hinges. I wonder why someone want totally nonmetallic frames, do they want to sneak by security?:D

There are some safety frames that contain no metal so they are non-conductive. This is in accordance with electrical regulation NFPA 70E
Could this be the reason for the reques?

On-Guard model 137s and 130 come to mind.
