The kind that fit; on the frame and on the nose.
I think round nose pads are good for ladies.
D shape are good for larger frames.
I hope someone would mass produce add on nose pads and nose pad arms for plastic frames. Plastic nose pad arms are flexible than metal ones. See photo attachment.

I never ever buy the R & L anymore, only asymetric. I liked button pads at first but now prefer just smaller vinyls for women, silicone for kids. It's a good idea to keep a variety of sizes and shapes on hand.

I keep a wide variety around, vinyl, polycarbonate, silicone, air-filled, crystal glass, and solid titanium - all symmetrical.

Serious question:
While I really, really like Hilco's (the new evil empire?:bbg:) comprehensive armamentarium of every accessory, tool, (and with Wilson Ophthalmic medical supply), I don't like their nosepad selection!
I wish for a vinyl, symmetric, 12-13mm, 15mm, 17-20 mm pad with metal posts and inserts! You know, a pad that will last!
Anyone have a suggestion for a durable, quality nosepad? (Outside of dirty-looking titanium and Billy Brock-engraved Bohemian crystal )
I was the new guy at this practice in town a dozen or so years ago and they were having a problem with this one guy coming back almost daily to have his nose pads adjusted. There was nothing wrong with the fit, they left no marks, they stayed in place, and he claimed that they “felt good” he just wanted them to be “tweaked” several times a week. Being the new guy I volunteered to help this gentleman. Everyone warned me that if I was more successful then they were he would be coming in asking for me. With that in mind I went out and greeted him and offered what I explained was a solution that I had seen work in the past. I went into the lab and took out a pair of the short silicone temple covers and slid then around the nose pad and pad arm leaving 10 mm or so of temple cover extending down over the nose pad. I went out and explained how it looked a little odd but I assured him it would work and that being a clear silicone it was not as noticeable as he may think at first glance. He put them on thanked me and went on his way. A week later we realized we hadn’t seen him back and figured it must have worked. We learned later that he had been killed in an accident so we are not one hundred percent sure that it worked but he did not shop any place else. Actually he is still alive I just don’t remember how the story ended it was too long ago. But I take from it that nose pads are peculiar things and one size doesn’t fit all. May he rest in peace.

If you are wondering why I was asking such a stupid question (I would've answered the same as rbaker and the others that followed him) its because I placed a bet with another Optician..
Thank you for taking the time to vote...
I like the round ones- they don't get stuck in my teeth.

I like the D style pads because they look the best and I think give me more options to fit them properly and in proportion to the nose and orbit.
Maybe some old school Opticians (Chris!) can chime in but it seems to me we have moved away from what was standard in the past (a right and left nosepad) to the symetrical of the present because it's easier to stock.
Recent threads bemoan the good old days when quality and professionalism was king but I say in the immortal words of Pogo- "We have met the enemy and he is us!"
While we're talking nosepads am I the only one who always looks at the pad style and will no longer buy frames that feature "innovative and unique" pad styled frames? Silhouette excepted.
