    setting stones

It's been years since I set rhinestones into lenses. You could use almost any glue on Cr, but these are poly lenses the patient insists on having stones set into. What glues are safe for poly?

Why did you change them to poly? There is your problem.

TRIVEX - that what Billy Brock uses. It's the only thing out lab would use when setting rhinestones (but that job had facets also)

You could send the lenses to me and I will do it for you. :bbg: Here is an example of a poly lens I did recently. Or just PM me your phone number and I can call you and give you the details on how it can be done. Easier than you think. ;)

PS - I could give you some tips for creating the frosted look as well.

Gem, MarcE, This was sold through our other location, not my choice on the poly. Plus, lens choice doesn't come in Trivex.

Thank you Harry for being helpful, I'll pm you my phone.

I never did this but Tura used to have some frames available with real diamonds $25,000.00+. But you could get a rhinestone version for a few hundred to show the patient. I checked with a local jeweler who told me he could replace the rhinestones with real diamonds for about $500.00.
I recently took some frames with a lot of rhinestones in the temples to the same jewelry store and she told me she could do this one for about $1,200.00 .
There is no patient or copywright infringement involved if the mfg. doesn't offer the frame with real jewels or the frame never had "optical jewelry" ornamentation.
You might want to talk with your local manufacturing jeweler and be supprised how the value of your frames could be enhanced. You might even have retired jeweler for a patient who would be interested in trying his hand in a little part time endevor..

    Nice work Harry!

Nice work Harry and an unusual treatment with the frosting. If you want to get into it deeper, why not contack Billy Brock? He's an Optiboarder and a great guy. You should make it a point to meet him at Vision Expo next time you go.
    His website is here: http://www.billybrock.com/

Give him a shout and introduce yourself, I am sure he would be happy to help you along.

    Hi Harry,

Can you do stone setting (0.8-0.9 mm crystal) with heart shape design on lens??

I am so tired to make handbags in the morning and then gotta finish stone setting on Rx lens overnight for my OD sisters in the states.

    Jerry,

Sure I can set them in any shape you like. With a heart one of my suggestions would be to airbrush the heart on the lens then set the stones within the airbrushed area, it gives it a cleaner look. If yu like I will make up a demo lens and post the photo's for you this week.

    DragonLensmanWV,

To answer your question about different shapes in compression mounts. Yes I will do any shape includeing some drawings people have brought in to me which I scan in the computer, clean up in photoshop, and print out on heavy card stock, then trace into the edger and go. I'm like an optical wh*r*, the dispensers in my office pimp me out to all kinds of picky customers.:) Check this out.

Any heart-shaped ones?I did a pair of those a few years back for a friend of mine when she went to Clown School. The scanning and printing seems like a good way to go too. Great idea!:cheers::cheers:

If you print it on thick enough card stock, or tape it to business cards you can trace it like a demo lens. Haven't doen any hearts, yet.

Clown School!!! I had a pair of heart-shaped pink-tinted lenses in a three-piece drill mount back in the early '70's. I loved those glasses!!!

    Vicki, is that you???!!! :bbg::bbg:
I had to do hers in her Rx, fortunately in low minus. And I used BPI Red, so they were redder than pink. And I used an Art-Craft three piece frame.

I have seen three piece drills in flowers (for the '60's children) and the state of Texas for the longhorns.

    Chip

Some of them were even in glass.

Allrighty, this is what I've been doing most of the day today. Had to:
    1. Go searching locally for a new belt for the old LeFacetor
    2. Find a different belt than the first one.
    3. Make pattern from old lens with bridge still attached because the guy poured super glue on the reach nuts in his old original Tura frame and couldn't remove frame.
    4. Edge lenses.
    5. Facet lenses (lemme tell ya- Trivex does not facet as easily as CR-39!)
    6. Sand edges - I always liked polished facets and sanded dull edges - good contrast.
    7. Figger out how to replace double bar bridge with newer compression mounts. I ended up using two Cassini bridges, just cut off the nosepads for the top one.
    8. Tint
    9. Drill
    10. Assemble.

All in all, I think it looks pretty good.:bbg:

    Chief Chip,

In Safilo factory, they do laser etching for mass production and then drop in stones one by one. I use print out done by CorelDraw file as stencil, cut a piece off and glue over lens, then apply drilling afterward.

I hate doing this because it got my eyes pump up to +2.75 for reading power at age of 44 and my OD sister only paid me in RMB rather than USD because I had them done in China everday after 10 hours of factory routine works....:hammer:!

Harry, I am going to pass on to you!
