We will sometimes shrink fit lenses into a frame without screws. Puts the lens in the freezer for 20 minutes and place the frame in the hot air frame warmer for a while then it gets easier to snap the lens into the frame then when the temperatures equalize the plastic expands and the frame contracts and the fit tightens.

It is surprisingly easy to glaze thin CR39 lenses into a metal frame. I have done it on occasion when the screws were jammed solid.
Most low price readers made in China use acrylic lenses.

Just a question leading on from this. How are dummy lenses edged and what are they made of?
If you sell the things either stock a lot of 1.5 and 1.6 mm hinge screws or be sure an peen everyone before you let it go out the door. Otherwise the patient will be back in your door for screws a lot more than you have time for.
