Shameless Praise for Chris Ryser from somebody other than Chris Ryser

I have to give Chris praise for his microtints idea. The other day at work was a busy day. We didn't even set up the edging lab because we knew that we wouldn't have time to use it. Customer came in to pick up glasses but guess what? They had not been tinted. This was for a customer that was catching a plane in a couple hours (isn't that always the case?). It would take forever to get the tint baths to a good temperature so I ran downstairs. We have a microtints container but I don't think it has ever been used. Poured some dye into it and ran up to the lunchroom. Tossed it in the microwave for a couple of minutes. Boom! Done!

I wasn't using microtint specific tints but I would have never thought of doing that without knowing Chris. You saved my *** yesterday!

    Just to confirm here....

You were using regular old (BPI?) tints in the microwave?

What material were you tinting, how long, etc?

I'd be curious to know (without getting into trade secrets) how different this would be than using the actual micro tints. Chris?

With my schedule now I am rarely in the store. I run in, do the edging and leave. It is nice that I can prep and tint a pair of lenses in the time I cut two more pairs. It is a good system.

Thanks drk.............a long and bumpy road. But there is a quite few every week that learn that it is easier, less toxic and heck of a lot faster and switch to Micro Tints.

And then there are the repeat orders................a couple of bottles every 6-10 month. I think i have to put some self destruct system into the dye, they last too long.

They actually work, about one time and then they disentagrate as they can not take the heat.

    1) I don't think that the Manitoba legislation has provided for such a step

    2) You are divorced from Lux family LC's

    3) Which means I might not agree.

Looking at your picture............I think you don't qualify.................toooooo young. Many kids ask this kind of questions.

Back to being serious..................Thanks for the compliment anyhow and if it saved you a happy customer all the better.

Maybe this incident convinced you to get a bit more serious on the use of the real MicroTint were the dyes are fast and last for extremely long time.

And when you start tinting polycarbonate lenses or high index that will go into dark shades you can not even reach in a dye pot, within 4-8 minutes you will see the universal value of the new tinting system.

And if you want to do real quantities you can get an industrial conveyor belt microwave and do 100,000 pairs a day in many different colors.

The US Navy has approved the tinting system 2 years ago, after 7 month of testing, is using it and their pilots are flying with sunglasses tinted with the MicroTint black color, which has one of the most even and straight transmission curves available. The same applies for the US Coast Guard and the Marines.

Of course I am ready to answer any technical questions relating to this tinting system.
