    Edger recommendations

Hey all. Possibly looking to replace our Gerber Pro (INDO) edgers in the near future. I'm fairly certain that the company won't approve a new one for us, so does anyone have any suggestions for some models that are more modernized than the Gerber Pro? I would really like to get a dry system that can interface with our Innovations software. Or one of those bad boyz that does the drill mounts, safety bevels, semi-rimless groove, and has my coffee ready for me when I arrive in the mornin' :bbg:

    Thanks

Is there a system with all of those attributes (except the coffee bit) other than the Optronics 7E? If you eliminate the "dry system" requirement, there are lots of options.

Contact a fellow Optiboarder = OpticLabRat.

He sells all different brands and may be able to steer you in the right direction.

Shanbaum makes a very good point. For *dry* edgers, I think your only option is the National Optronics machine!

Talk to OpticLabRat - he appears to be quite knowledgable in this area.

I'm going through the same search as you right now.

The 7E is your only dry-cut edger that drills, it is an affixed angle.

We at Briot have 3 drilling edger systems; The Alta drilling in chamber (complete angling) and the CLD drilling in chamber (affixed angle) and a edger & stand alone drill (complete angling)

Santinelli has the ME1000 drills in chamber (complete angling)

Gerber has the Kappa that drills in chamber (complete angling?)

AIT has the Opera (edger & stand alone drill)(complete angling)

The wet edging sytems have the nicer finish quality by far.

If your software is VCA compliant, then equipment should interface.

That has been another dilema of mine. I would really like the quality of a wet system, but also would like to have the flexibility of a dry system. Granted we only order maybe 10-15 drill mount jobs per month, but it would be nice to be able to do them in house. I'm starting to think that the benefits of a wet system would out weigh those of a dry system. Not to mention the cost difference. We'll be stuck with these junkers for probably another year or so, but I'd be surprised if they last that long. Especially with how hard it's been to get parts for them. Just replaced the electronics enclosure on one of em this week (ouch).

The ONLY advantage to a dry cut edger is it is easier to deal with the swarth. The disadvantages far out weigh the advantages. Just my opinion. I think one thing that hurt Weco was some financhail difficulties and situations in recient years. They hit me pretty hard for a part back when they were in recievership or whatever that was. It left a bad feeling with me.
