    Motorcycle Eyewear

I have a Harley Davidson enthusiast who is looking for a new pair of glasses for his bike. He wants them to cover the eye and block wind. He sees the vendors at bike shows, but wants to be able to use his flex-spending account. Any ideas on the best place to get specs? (I practice in a LensCrafters so they don't have anything suitable for him). He needs the specs to be Rx-able. OD: -3.00 -0.75 x097, OS: -2.75 -0.50 x058/ +2.00 add OU.

    Thank you!!!

Wily-X all the way! The Brick w/ a low FT-28 in polar grey w/ backside ARC, or if you want a PAL, use the SSSLK. It is flatter, so less distortion. Most Wiley-Xs come with removeable foam inserts. If you need a lab to make them right, PM me. We sell 3-4 per day for undergroun miners, Harley riders, etc.

    We do alot of them . . . .

Wiley X and Panoptx probably work best. I prefer the Velocity series from Panoptx the best. They seal really well. A nice Drivewear lens . . . I wish we were closer!!

    Good luck to you!!

As a rider, I prefer the WileyX styles over the Panoptix product any day. Panoptix have a poor gasket system that breaks down in a matter of months. Mine gave way within a summer. My new WileyX have been flawless.

Liberty actually has some nice frames for bikers. I still have two Harley sunglasses I can't get rid of.

TagHeuer has some great frame choises and good lenses. Ive got a sv (with a similar rx) pair myself and the im not picking up distortion from from the +8 bc poly. I have had good results with patients wearing progressives as well. Unlike others they offer varilux lenses.

Some riders (like me) have overly large heads and a traditional full face helmet simply doesn't fit comfortably - I wear one, but on long trips I wear a headpan only simply for comforts sake.

We had some problems with the old Panoptx styles but the newer models have been holding up much better. Only drawback is that they won't do progressive lenses.

    So has our lab . . . . .

As a matter of fact I got the Drivewear Image in one and love it. I tried to put 1 job through Panoptx themselves and it was a nightmare. The lady in the office was nice enough, but couldn't comprehend any optical terms like B or ED.

Now that we job our stuff through a real optical lab we are much happier. Good luck to you!!

Personally - and this is only a statement towards style - I'll stick with WileyX. Gotta maintain my biker persona and Panoptix just don't fit that bill.

Why not a not *too wrapped* RayBan? You're still in the parameters for Carl Zeiss to run it (Rx Sun on eyenet). Call them and see. I know they can do SV and Prog. in wraps +/-3 with up to a 2 cyl. Order the forms thru CP.

i agree on the backside AR/polarized combo.

PS, straight back (library) temples are best as they allow the rider to remove them easily before removing their helmet.

Yeah, we Rx a lot of the Ray-Ban Daddy-O models 2015 1nd 2016. They're rubber frames so they fit under helmets ok. We have a car lot owner who just loves those. Bless his heart, he loses them frequently.:bbg:
Though he has held onto his Drivewear pair for a pretty long time so far.;)

I recently read/heard that motorcycle helmet protect you up to a 14 mph. crash. Who is worried about a 14 mph crash? I also have some physician friends that tell me the people they have seen "saved" by thier helmet often would have been better off had they not been saved.

    Redhot Jumper Plastic Frame.................

I support Mr. Mitchell's idea...............using a bike for fun I wear a well fitting on the nose, large plastic frame............(the wind will bother your eyes when wearing a metal frame)............... and on a nice warm day you wont even need a face shield. Give him a flat top lens, the distortion on progressives in a large frame is bothersome on a bike.
