    Canadian Labs

Hi there, need some help on some good labs here in Canada since I've never done business with any of them. All my business is done in California.

Just names and a phone number if you have them would be appreciated or a url. Oh, I don't mind sending my business to a "mom & pop" shop if they're good!

Also, if there is a company that you want to warn me about, just PM me about them cause bashing is a big "NO-NO" on posts.

Thanks for your time, I appreciate it.

I'm at home right now, so I'll have to give you phone numbers tomorrow...

    Cascade Optical
KW Optical (which is an Essilor lab)
Allied Labs (optometrist-owned, so I'm not sure if they just have optometric accounts)
Nikon and Hoya both have surfacing labs locally

All of the above are clustered together in Burnaby, so all local to you. We've also been happy with stock lenses from Quantum Optique.

It's 10:00 pm and I haven't had supper yet, so all I can think about right now is food. I'll email you more details tomorrow.

What is the reputation of Opal Optical in Alberta? I deal with the company for frames and dealt with their Missisauga lab years ago. The lab was very bad, but I hear the Alberta one is good.

We also do quite a bit of work with Hoya too, but recently it seems like they have been overwhelmed. I hope they get it together, I'm a big sucker for the Nu-lux Phoenix w/Hivision Viewprotect and the iD.

My fav indy lab in Calgary is Doctor's Optical, Philip who runs the show is probably the most anal guy in the industry, he's perfect.

I have used Plastic Plus for several years. I've used a number of labs the last 15 or so years-- KW, RR, Imperial and several others. Plastic Plus has provided very good service, reasonable rates. They also have a great free-form progressive that has been wonderful -- great optics, high adaptation rate. Overall, very satisfied.:bbg:

We're not in Canada, but we now ship uncuts overnight to Canada, duty and tax free with no brokerage fees.

I would just like to mention Island Optical on Vancouver Island. We've been in business for over 25 years and we are the Western Canadian distributors of Seiko Freeform progressives.

Another lab guy chiming in here! However my question relates to Canadian opticians doing biz with US companies. Do you find an advantage to do so? We always get very strong inquiries from Canada during Expo and other shows so my curiosity is piqued in this regard.

    Lee,

Absolutely there's interest from Canada! With NAFTA and no duties on ophthalmic materials it makes no sense as canadians to limit our suppliers to those in our own country. I know we're a small economy, but it's a market that I would urge all US companies to explore! What products does your company offer?
