    When is it legal?

    Hey there :D

Just wondering what the next steps are after passing the Canadian exams that allows me to start filling Rx's?

I've sent in my registration with the COBC and also sent in my registration with the OAC for my insurance. I am a registered business owner as well.

Is it just a matter of waiting for my certificates?

If so, does anyone know how long that usually takes? Or, am I needing to take another step that I am not aware of?

    thanks folks..

If you are registered with the College, you may begin filling prescriptions right away. You are required to display your certificate, but if it hasn't arrived yet, just go ahead anyway. I won't tell anyone if you won't. Michelle, you should call the College with your inquiries. Intruduce yourself to Nick Atkinson, the registrar. He has a wealth of knowledge, and will assist you in any way he can.

    Snit:
Would you wait to start "celebrating marriage" until the documents were properly registered at the court house? Or would you wait only until you were in an appropriate setting. Selling glasses is a lot less important.
Once you paid your fees and said your I do's it's O.K.

Geez Louise...the College already "knows." I already told Michelle to go ahead and dispense...if she is registered, but only waiting for her certificate. It does have to be displayed, but the College will live with the tiny transgression for a couple days until the certificate arrives. (I'm like Sgt Schultz on Hogans Heros- "I know NOTHING!")

You are just cracking me up with your replies to my posts…

I for one am not one of those “traditional” marriage girlies. Nothing wrong with it, but hey, I’m quite happy with my decision to elope and have Elvis as my witness…it did only take 5 mins to get my marriage documents.

    As far as selling glasses:

There are a few categories of Optician’s that are in this business and I am pretty sure others can add their (opinions) categories to this list.

There are people who “love” what they do and do what they “love” and have a true honest to goodness passion for it.

There are people who just do what they do because that is what they know and collect a paycheck.

Then of course there are your burnouts that like to just sit and complain, do what they know and not transform all that negativity into something positive to make a difference.

Oh and there’s people like Mr. Pilmmer @ King West Optical.

Chip your posts do make me laugh but please, I would appreciate it if you don’t put me down (in your own little way) for loving what I do. I for one haven’t lost that spark!

I AM an OPTICIAN! :p Lol to the "I AM" thread that is going on.

Dave, phoned them and I am registered and my insurance is taken care of as well. Since I am totally legit in everything I do (the crazy Virgo in me), I will wait since they stated I need the certs. Heck, I waited 6 months to get through school, waited 2 months to sit for the exams and then another 2 months to get my exam results. What's another week, eh? LOL <---sitting here bitting my nails off cause somethings are just so darn exciting... lol

Sgt Schultz, I appreciate you giving me the OK.....

If you are opening your own business, then you might want to get a copy of "OptiGuide" . It lists all the optical suppliers, their addresses and phone numbers as well as providing an alphabetical listing of frame name brands . From the name brand you can then find the distributor for that brand. www.opti-guide.com or 450-629-6005

While you are waiting maybe visit your competition . If you have a chance to visit Ontario (can't believe I am saying this ) you might want to visit that controversial chain and study the marketing . The marketing is better than good .

What else do you need to do to open ?
    Thanks Gary :D

Not new to the business (20+years of dispensing), just new to Canada.

What is the name of the controversial chain?
