Anyone doing much remote edging? How are the results? Does material or frame selection matter much?

We have been doing remote site tracing for the past four and a half years. We are doing it from six locations with very few problems to speak of. The breakage from the remote sites is about 2%.Originally posted by RP:

The material doesn't make a difference. We do everything but glass. We are doing it from six locations and they stretch from Colorado to California. The dispensers in the store really like it as it really speeds up the turn around time.
Wrap frames done remote do present some problems.
The bggest thing is communication between the remote site and the lab and calibration.

I don't think that I fully understand your question, and unfortunately do not know from what frame of reference you are asking it. Some offices do remote order entry, some do remote tracing combined with remote order entry, and yet others do "remote edging" (with and without remote trace/order entry), which was your original question. Have I thoroughly confused you yet?? ;)
I interpret remote edging as an office that orders lenses uncut or stock, and edges in house. I have customers using all of the above remote options and would love to respond. However I'd rather just comment on the info you really need. Post some more details of what you are looking for, and I will offer feedback (in addition to what Jerry already has).
p.s. Jerry is well known as one heck of a knowledgable industry guru, so I'd take his input as highly credible!
