    Thumbs up Body Worlds exhibit

Has anyone ever gone to see any of the Body Worlds exhibits by Dr. Gunther von Hagens? Here in Vancouver, it ends today so Science World has been running 60 hours straight so that procrastinators like me could still get the chance to see it. Had tickets for 9:45 pm, finally got in at 10:30, finished around 12:50 am, and just got home now. And I definitely think it was worth it.

I understand that there has been some controversy about where the bodies come from and about respect (or lack thereof) of the deceased. However, the perpetual student in me couldn't resist the chance to learn more about anatomy and the working of the human body. The one portion of the exhibit that I might have been squeamish about, embryonic and fetal development, actually left me amazed at the miracle of a baby's creation. In fact the whole exhibit made an impression far beyond what you learn in textbooks. I wholeheartedly recommend anyone to take the time to see one of his exhibits if you get the chance.

I caught that when it went thru Philadelphia, PA this past summer. Really neat exhibit. I thought it would be more "phony", but it is really not. My two complaints:1.) Too many people allowed thru at one time. 2.) It was so stinking hot in the exihit hall, that I thought I would become one of the stiffs! I was surprised those darn things didn't melt!!!(I almost did!)

I saw it here in Denver and I thought it was really cool. One of them looked like my old science teacher. One can only hope. . . .!!

Better than having that cold one

Perhaps the idea should catch on that the Plastination process will become fully reversible in the future - by 2100 they will have that all figured out. An alternative to anyone having their recently late self cryogenically preserved. Think of the energy savings ...

    rinselberg,

Interesting thought, but is it even theoretically possible? From what I understand, all the fat and water content of the body is replaced by polymers. I suppose one might be able to reverse the polymer to water, but the fat? Then you'll have people looking for cosmetic surgery along with the cryonics!
