Why do they keep the original Acuvue?
Because there are the people who don't want to pay more for them...
"I love the Oasys, they feel so much more comfortable than my old lenses."
Great! your total for a 6 month supply is $xxx.($40 more than old)
"Gosh, that's expensive! I don't want to pay that much! Just give me my old kind then"

what about acuvue 2.. AND acuvue advance... that doent answer question why tha one day MOIST???
So those overdiagnosed with "dry eyes" and have a practioner scared to suggest castor oil can spend more money on "technology."
The keep selling the other stuff because people are still buying it.
The Acuvue, Acu 2, One Day, Oasys, etc. and with the exception of Surevue, still exist because all patients are not created equal. Some people are not comfortable in the new lenses. They are a different material. It is not always the price. I have patient's that love Oasys and those who just can't tolerate them. So, back to the A2 or equivalent lens. I have a few people still in the original Acuvue. These are long time wearers and they prefer an over night lens. We use many brands of lenses so that we can find the fit and comfort level that the patient wants.
I don't want to give the impression that we fit everyone in the Oasys or the "latest and greatest"
We also have some people who aren't as comfortable as well. We use mulitple vendors and still do various hard lenses as well.
It just irks me when we have a patient that complains there current AVs or whatever lens is uncomfortable and they want something that "breathes" more. However after going through the fitting (when we tell them they are more expensive before starting the "refit" process) and having the talk about how much better these lenses are over a period of 2-3 visits, when we remind them of price again, they flip out.
Happens to us anyway at least once a month...
