    A Practice Management Software Solution

For the past year I have been working with Microsoft Office Small Business Management Edition 2006 and I am very much impressed with the capabilities of the product. It offers the eye care business a very robust, fully configurable environment which is can manage every phase of your business process. In fact, nothing else out there comes close to its capabilities and its low price for initial cost, support and training.

I am willing to volunteer my assistance to any OptiBoard member who would like to use this application to manage and grow their business. Since I am retired and have all of the money and fame that I need I feel that it is time to give back some of the knowledge that was so freely given me over the years by many optical friends.

I would prefer to initially work with someone in New England or Oregon as that is “home” to me. But, I do not limit myself to just these areas. The internet is a wonderful thing allowing us all to live and work in the same neighborhood.

Please feel free to send me a private email. And, for obvious reasons I can only work with business owners. And, for personal reasons, I will only work with independent business owners. I will also ask that you assist other OptiBoarders by reporting your progress and passing along what you learn. Let this be a free forum for the betterment of the independent small businessman laboring in the eye care vineyard.

    Dear friend Dick,

Can you give me a bit more info on the software?

Does it have any marketing section?

    Regards, M:)

    Dear Dick,

I'm after a program that I could enter client's Rx and their purchases.
Last purchase with a marketing tool to send them a notice every year as a reminder. Also want to inform the clients on certin new lenses or contact lenses.
Is the software that you've recommended , capable of all the above?

    Regards, M:)

I would wait until May. There's a new entry coming to town that will instantly grab your attention. More features, significantly better price point.

    Dick,
You are awesome for being so generous. It would be helpful if you could list the features of the program and how they could benefit anyone.

I hope Microsoft appreciates your efforts.

Please refer to my post #5 above.

I have spent 20 years developing software for the eye care community and prior to my retirement a few years ago was familiar with most applications on the market. Most existing applications fail to meet the needs of the individual practice, some lack in customer resource management while others come up short in accounting. You see, every business is different.

Therefore, the solution lies in the management of the practice developing their own applications, in house. Microsoft Office (or possibly OpenOffice) offer the best route to developing, maintaining and putting into production the tools that will support your business processes.

Just about everyone out of diapers is familiar with the Office applications and courses are offered in just about every school in the country. On line help and user groups abound.

If you ain't half smart, well too bad. If you ain't willing to learn there is no hope for you.

    Sorry, just trying to help.
