Hakim makes its decisions based on how much you currently get paid. The company will pay you more. But watch out, as soon as they find someone cheaper, they will let you go.
This has happened on three occasions that I know of. Considering that I only know about 7 stores, I think it is a lot.

I know many opticians employed by Hakim. Base is at least $50K plus 2% commission, $2 for each coating add on and $5 for each multiple pair purchase. Contact lenses commission is 5%. I have to disagree with one of these posts, they will pay well to keep good opticians.
I knew someone who worked at one indy shop for 20 years. Hakim approached her. She blew them off. They said that they would pay her $10k over her current pay. She made the tough decision. When she came to work on her first day, she found out that she was let go and they have hired someone else for cheaper. They did not even let her in the door to work her first shift.
That can happen anywhere. There are two marvelous things called an 'Offer of Employment' and 'Employment Contract'. I would never work anywhere without both of these. If they want you bad enough, but aren't willing to agree and sign a contract, then stay put and forget the offer.
It could happen anywhere, but it has happened several times at Hakim. Considering that the corporation has only recently enter our area, it seems rather high.
I see. I don't know where that is but if it's Alberta, yes it is a new market and this is also the norm for Alberta employment everywhere at the moment riding out that economic wave.
Winnipeg and Northern Ontario

The one in Northern Ontario were chain individuals who did not want to work for those chains anymore. The ones in Winnipeg were independent based.
