    Can't get rid of pop-ups!

Help. Our lab optician / co-owner can't stay away from the porn sites though he denies it. Now we have boobies and worse popping up at times without warning. Our patients can see our computer screen so I have to leave the monitor dark unless none are around. This is aggravating me to no end. I have tried several pop-up blockers but none work. Please help me de-boob our computer. Getting rid of dirty old lab guy is not an option.

I use a pop-up blocker from Panicware, it's free, seems to work.

You may also want to check for and get rid of any spyware on your system, the two seem to go together. I use Spybot-search and destroy, also free.

:bbg: I love Kim Komando :bbg: I am so not a techie kind of person but she makes it sound so easy ... LOL

I found something on her site that I use it's called "Crap Cleaner" - it cleans up a lot of stuff and works well and fast (and it's free). Here's a link to it (it's at the bottom of the article).

It might be in the best interest of the practice to get a HR policy established for using electronic media. Of course, with him being a co owner, that may be a mute point. :(

Thanks for the tips and I will try them on Monday. As for a policy from the HR department. Our wonderful if kooky office consists of 2 dispensors, 2 ODs, 1 dirty old lab guy, and me the office manager/porn buster.

firefox is a good browser that blocks most popups automatically. www.getfirefox.com
spybot S & D (sounds a bit funny, but its good)
lavasoft adaware (also good, and picks up different things)
unfortunately there are several similar sounding programs that are spyware programs that "force" you to buy their fix.

antivir or grisoft antivirus programs, keep them updated.

personally, i think firefox is the best bet and works for me, but they all play a role.

disclaimer, some of the above may not be "free" for commercial use... might have to check on their pages.

I had forgotten that my daughter dates a Geek Squad guy. Asked him and he concurred with you on Spybot S&D. Free download and I was at it first thing this morning. All smut has been banished! What a great product. Spybot is highly recommended.

us geeks are all over. glad it worked. like i said though, adaware does find things that spybot misses/doesn't search for.

i also found grisoft antivirus, which i noticed today has an antispyware edition as well. never tried it before.

I think generally programs such as spybot are well regarded because a lot of the programs actually add spyware themselves, or force you to add toolbars, etc. I guess they have to pay for the free somehow.

Glad you like Spybot, but be sure to add Adawre SE and the pop-up blocker too. Also make sure your anti-virus program is up to date.
