It is by universal misunderstanding that all agree. For if, by ill luck, people understood each other, they would never agree.
You can use dd to copy the system disk to another disk or image file, but going from SCSI to IDE is going to present some problems. You would probably have to resinstall the kernel on the new disk and even that may not work. I would suggest investing in a cheap 9 G SCSI, then using dd would be a piece of cake.

You could use a live cd to boot into an operating system of your choice then copy the files over. Try a google search for knoppix. If you are fmiliar with windows try Win PE.
