    RX Sun height measurement

How do you guys do this procedure? What I mean, is how do you do it so you can see the patients eyes.

We take the lenses out and put tape over the frame (same with frames without lenses). Just wondering if any of you have a brighter idea.

Use a penlight. Works fine. Cheap!

In my opinion it is not clear enough, and therefore, not accurate enough.

    No brighter idea........................

There was a time when new frames did not have any demo lenses. Demo lenses only started in the mid to late 60s on better class frames.

Using a scotch tape across the middle of the lens let you mark height and centres, also on regular bifocals you can draw a thick line to demonstrate to patient where the line will be.

    Perfect procedure For-Life.

If you can't see through the lens, pop the lens out. I don't use tape though I know many opticians do. My ruler is accurate.

I really like the "fingers" (seg measuring gauge) ... it has 3 "prongs" ("fingers") with the measurements already denoted on the center finger (like a pd stick). You take out the demo lens, insert the gauge into the bottom of the frame bevel (2 fingers in the front, 1 in the back or vice versa ;) ).

I'm surprised you guys like that. I had to use them at LC, but to me the lines were so darn close together (they are millimeters, after all) I really couldn't see. I had to dot the stupid gauge! I guess just trying to figure out where the pupil is behind many fine lines gave me a headache!

Wow Karen, I've often wanted to but have so far managed to not use the finger on my patient's, even though some have deserved it.:bbg: Chris..

This is bright enough to go through just about any tint. Measures 13cm x 2.5cm and uses very heavy guage aluminium.
