    CD Read Problems

I am having a problem reading data from CD's I have burned. I can run other CD's such as video and audio with out any problems. My first concern was that the disk was scratched and compromised but then tried it in another computer which pulls up the info. I recently updated my virus software and presume something somewhere may need to be tweeked.

    Helpful Thoughts Appreciated

Are you using the same drive as you burned the CDs on? Some older drives don't take well to burned CDs.

I'm trying to read on the same drive they were burned on. I have opened them up many times before so I know the info is there but just can't access it.

I guess we're talking about a data CD? Did you close the session (I don't remember if that's the correct term...)

I know this sounds stupid, but have you tried rebooting your computer and seeing if your CD drive is showing up in the BIOS. Of course that is moot if the drive is performing otherwise normally.
The sad thing is that burners can die. I have a HP DVDwriter740i that will no longer burn DVDs or CDs. Seems the laser has gone bad, but it uses a different laser for the Lightscribe labeling, and that one still works. So it resides in one of my spare computers and I use it just for labeling.
