    Marco lensometer: 101 vs 201?

    Hello,

Its been a while since I've seen a marco lensometer. Can anyone enlighten me as to the difference between the 101 and the 201. It seems the 101 is the more popular one, but I'm not sure why. Anything the 201 can't do that the 101 can?

    thanks,

    hey orangezero,

here is the technical data on both, the 101 is the lower model but sufficient.

    thanks,

i guess i've just never used a lensometer that has "internal" readings. do you have to look through the ocular to see the axis and power?? it doesn't look like its on the knobs..

seems like that is pretty much the only difference.

not sure how the internal reading thing works, but if you were verifying jobs at a lab I could see how this could be a time saver, also it measures +-25.00 diopters instead of only +-20.00 diopters. Would have come in handy not to long ago when I had a -22.00.

well, the other difference i noticed is that the bulbs are around $8, instead of around $5 like the 101. I can probably deal with that... different wattage too.

thanks again. like you website, by the way.

Does anyone have a good source of parts for these lensometers? I have a 101 that could use some freshening up.

No idea on parts, but I did finally receive my Marco 201. I think I got a steal, its almost brand new, or maybe is. The ink pad has never even been filled with ink.

Anyway, I'm writing back to futher clarify to whoever may read this in the future.

The marco 201 has the axis reading on the outside like the 101, but the diopter power reading is built into the scope. Its on the bottom left of your field when looking in. Not very big, and I think it works best in low light situations. I'm not sure though, cause you still have to have some light to read the axis, perhaps the "on" light on the top of the unit is enough. I haven't messed with it enough.

and for the other poster about the parts, there was another question the other day about a B&L lensometer that had a link. I think they had marco parts too, not sure.

    thanks.
