REAL pirate lore ... marine archaeologists are recovering unique artifacts from an offshore wreck on the coast of the Carolina's from what is thought to be one of Black Beard's pirate ships. According to legend, Black Beard met a gruesome end at the hands of the British. It's all here in this brief video clip from MSNBC.

MSNBC video clip from The Today Show:
    http://video.msn.com/v/us/msnbc.htm?...e7761&f=00&fg=

If the first video that plays is a commercial, it will only be a few seconds before the Black Beard one starts.

a patient in our office helped produce a black beard special for the history channel recently.

Black Beard is a character in the Baroque Cycle by Neal Stephenson so obviously i'm a tad obsessed on him lately.

    We sell "Pirate" lenses.

We often tell people that we can sell them pirate lenses, and they ask, what are those?
We tell them lenses with an "AR" coating - you just have to growl the AR just right.

Anyone remember the old pirate movie, Swashbuckler?

btw, I have a friend who was a real pirate. she served on the Hawaiian Chieftain and was in charge of firing the cannon, and pilfering the villages for grog. Ironically she is a mormon and thus a tee-totaler.

Then ye' best stock up and be ready to quench your thirst by hoisting a Jolly Rodger ...

Drake's Jolly Rodger is a seasonally brewed Scottish style ale that boasts a potent 9.00 percent alcohol. Brewer's website: http://www.drinkdrakes.com/home.html.

Drake's Jolly Rodger was selected as rinselberg's Beer Of The Day for March 26, 2007.

Beer Of The Day is an off-forum blog that celebrates beer as an Objet d'art.

Beer Of The Day neither encourages or frowns upon alcohol consumption. If a beer has a catchy name and a striking bottle label, it is eligible for posting, regardless of whether it tastes like nirvana, paint thinner, or anything in between. Drinking a sample of the beer is optional and over and above the required selection process.

    Arrrhh! Mythbusters

Now we find out the reason the pirates wore the patches over their eyes was to allow them one dark-adapted eye with which to see in the darkened interiors of the ships. Just switch the patch and harrrr matey - you can see the ol' barrel o' grog in the hold.
