Dr. Norbert Gorny to become the new CEO
of Carl Zeiss Vision International GmbH

Changes to the Carl Zeiss Vision Advisory Board

Aalen, Germany, September 11, 2006. Dr. Norbert Gorny, Member of the Executive Board of Carl Zeiss AG since 2001, will become CEO Carl Zeiss Vision International GmbH on October 1, 2006. As CEO, he will take over leadership of the second largest ophthalmic lens manufacturer in the world. He succeeds Jeremy Bishop, who has been CEO of the company since its inception in March of 2005.

Carl Zeiss Vision was created through the merger of the ophthalmic lens business of Carl Zeiss with SOLA International Inc. Under the leadership of Jeremy Bishop, the integration of the two entities has progressed successfully, and in the first six months of the current business year, Carl Zeiss Vision achieved revenues of 426 million euros ($541 million). This represents an increase of more than 10% over the previous financial year. At the same time, the market share of the global company has increased in almost every region.

Dr Norbert Gorny joined Carl Zeiss in 1998 after completing almost five years as a business consultant at McKinsey & Co., Inc. He began his time at Carl Zeiss as the Head of the Light Microscopy Division before being promoted to the role of Executive Vice President of the Business Group, Microscopy. He was appointed to the Executive Board of Carl Zeiss Group in January 2001. In this capacity, he has also overseen the Optronics and Photo Divisions, as well as the corporate production departments. In addition, the European Sales subsidiaries reported to him.

Also taking effect on October 1, 2006, in accordance with the Shareholder agreement , Dr. Michael Kaschke, Member of the Executive Board of Carl Zeiss AG will resign from the role of Chairman of Carl Zeiss Vision’s Advisory Board and will assume the role of the Vice-Chairman of the company. He will be succeeded by Sune Karlsson, currently Vice-Chairman and previously an Executive Director of ABB.

Following the completion of his pre-agreed term as CEO, Jeremy Bishop will join the Advisory Board of Carl Zeiss Vision. Dr Dieter Kurz, CEO of CZ AG, will also join the Board, taking over the position vacated by Dr Norbert Gorny upon the assumption of his new role as CEO of the Company.
