    Optician wages in Ontario

    Hello all,

If/when my college finally allows us to hire an optician my office will be doing so. What I'd like to know is what you think are fair wages for an optician. I've seen a lot of comments that us ODs are cheap, but I want to be sure we are paying a salary in line with the going rate.

Now I realize that experience, education, etc. all factor in to this so what I'd appreciate a minimum/average/dream job kind of breakdown.

This is the kind of stuff that most are not always happy to talk about too openly (I don't tell others how much I make either) so a few PMs would be wonderful.

    Thanks!

Give it two years and the Canadian $ will be worth more than the US $

Ontario opticians are all certified in contact lens fitting, while in other provinces, such as B.C, it is optional. This is part of the reason why opticians in Ontario earn more $. (of course the other part is, they have to live in ONTARIO.;) )

    Are we sure of anything?

It is a hunch. All I know that in a 6 year period the Canadian dollar increased about $35 cents to be only $10 cents less than the US dollar.
