    Unique Problem.......

    Jim,
I have a customer with a problem that I've not encountered before. My feeling is that this condition is related to something other than Transitions but I thought I would go to the top with this one.

My customer complains of not being able to see into shadows while wearing Transitions. He is referring to people on the side of the road, which would indicate he was driving. He also told me he had a problem coming out of the South Station Tunnel in Boston last winter. He didn't see a vehicle cutting in front of him. He has been told of the "automobile factor" which inhibits Transitions darkening ability. He states he doesn't have these problem while wearing sunglasses (polarized)

He is wearing Definity CR 39 in Transitions and while early adaptation problems caused some complaint he now is used to them. I know of nothing inherent in Transitions that could be causing this. Do you have any thoughts??

I am emailing this page to him so he can see your response
    Thanks for your time
    Harry

    Hi Harry,
I hope all is well with you.

Transitions in a closed car would be a near equivalent of a clear lens. With his polarized lenses, his peripheral vision is sharper, he can see details that he misses with clear lenses. The AR on the backside of the polarized lens will hold down glare and help with his vision too.

Are his DEFINITY Transitions AR Lenses too? If not that may hinder his ability to see peripheral objects.

Does he have the same problem with clear lenses?

On the other hand, I have heard many testimonials on driver's vision improvement at dusk and night wearing Transitions. The driver could see details like driveway entrances and they experienced less eye fatigue.

    best regards,
    Jim

    Thanks Jim...

He chose not to get AR, but if he wants it, it can be done to his lenses. I don't think his polarized lenses are AR'd either but I haven't seen them. Thanks for the speedy reply.

There is a slight difference on the transmission of these lenses. AR would certainly improve it, but I wouldn't think it to be significant.
