    No, despite what you may be thinking, that is NOT the latest from Bill Gates and Microsoft.

    And it's not the latest joke being heard around the office water cooler.

    Researchers at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, a hotbed of cutting edge computer science, are building simple prototype computers that exploit the strange and seemingly nonsensical laws that govern the interactions of light waves and subatomic particles - quantum physics.

    The idea of biological computers is also being looked into. The reason is that chips keep getting smaller and smaller as well as more powerful. But eventually you'll reach the point at which you just can't make things any smaller. At that point computing power will hit a wall. That time is probably some years off, but folks like Intel have to think about it.

    Ah yes, I saw a television program concerning this matter, it also discussed the possibility of biological chips leading to destruction of the human species - scary stuff. But if i can get 100 times more space on my hard drive who cares!
