    Noisy cylinder machine

My coburn 5056 cylinder machine when using the foam laps and adapter makes a high pitch squelling noise on the polisher, it's been making the noise forever and seems not to affect the lenses. btw, it doesn't make the noise on the finers?
Anyone have an answer or solution.

    I am just guessing....

Could it be one of the bolts is loosen on the clamps? or not enough air pressure??

But it doesn't make this noise when you use aluminum (or whatever) laps?

Could it be that the polish flow isn't quite enough to really saturate that pad on the polisher? in my old lab, the felt pads absorbed a huge amount of polish, and it almost suctioned the lenses to the foam lap. It would make a high pitch squeal, similar to running your hand on a smooth desk top. When we increased the polish flow and used the spray arms that could be adjusted, that seemed to really help.

Check the pins. Sometimes they're not in tight and they "work" in the holder and squeal. If you let it go long enough, you'll need to replace the pin holder because just tightening the bolts will no longer be enough.
