Hello alll~
Pardon my lengthy post.
My good friend works for Costco and has decided to purchase progressive lens glasses there. I went with her the other day when she was looking at frames just to give her my opinion. I can't convince her to go to my optician mostly because she is on an extreme budget and she says she trusts the optical dept at Costco where she works. There is a vast difference in price admittedly.
When I went with her I had to bite my tongue because I wanted to brag about my new Ellipse and Alize lenses. And my frames which I like better than what they have to offer. She asked if they fit for the narrower frames like mine and they said "yes". The woman didn't seem to know the name of the lense though. She only knew they sell Ovation for regular size glasses. She called someone and they told her "Silor". Is this a brand name? It looks like the last 5 letters of Essilor. They did tell her that's the brand they use for that brand Ovation. But those are for larger frames. My friend would get the Silor. And the anti reflective is called Vivix. I suppose since I've never heard of these brands it makes me wonder if theyre just as good. The price sure is right! But for my friend this is a necessity. For me I prefered to pay more for something I knew.
I told her I would post to this message board and ask if these brands are familiar to anyone. Also if they're considered decent lenses and coating. I just don't want her to pay less money only to get something not worthy.
I did reply back in another thread to someone who mentioned Vivix so at least it's not entirely unheard of. He said a word called Stainless. I'm not sure if Costco carries that or not. The woman there was telling us they only carry top of the line products. However one thing she said interested me and this is why I told my friend to hold off until I ask. She said they have not had good luck with patients liking the Silor shorter lenses. I told her i loved my Ellipse from the very beginning. So now I am wondering if this is an issue with the Silor or just that some people don't do well with progressive lenses in general. I told my girlfriend I would get back to her.
Thank you.
