New to the Optic Board and curious to know..

Hello everyone, my name is Gilbert and I have an interview for the Ophthalmic Tech position. I have no history or experience but none was necessary according to the ad. I was wondering what exactly are the tasks of this position, possible starting pay, working environment...that sort of thing. What are some of the subjects do anyone of you suggest I look into to make myself more knowledgable for the interview? I'd appreciate any suggestions about my current situation. I just want to know if this may be for me. Thanks

What did the ad indicate you would be doing?

I know some places over here have Ophthalmic Techs do pretesting, assisting and even refractions! They do get paid well due to the fact that many of them require schooling. At least thats how it is at a few places I know around me.

Appreciate the website. The ad also mentioned that I will become certified within a 6 month period which is why they're accepting pretty much anybody with a CPR certification. Again, thank you.

I think you will find that it takes more than a 6 month period to become certified.

"Details on certification and specific training programs are available from the Joint Commission on Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology (JCAHPO) at http://www.jcahpo.org/newsite/index.htm."

If your employer is willing to train you and help you obtain certification, that is a huge plus. COT's do very well around here and are in demand.
