Tuesday April 4, 5:36 pm ET Luxottica Says Sales for the First Quarter Rose 20 Percent From Last Year

NEW YORK (AP) -- Italian eyewear maker Luxottica Group SPA said Tuesday sales for the first quarter of 2006 were up about 20 percent from last year.

Chief Executive Andrea Guerra disclosed the figures at the launch event of the Persol Incognito Exhibition in Milan, the company said. The increase in sales resulted from strong wholesale and retail spending on its products. Wholesale sales to third parties for the quarter were up about 30 percent, the company said. The company reported sales of 1 million euro ($1.34 million) in last year's first quarter, implying sales of about 1.3 million euro, or $1.5 million, in the most recent period.
