    Panoscopic tilt

Could anyone tell us the effect of panoscopic tilt on a patient's prescription? We have a patient who is a high minus and when we give her severe tilt she says her distance vision improves dramatically. She noticed this on her own while watching tv. We were wondering what effect this has on her true prescription...

Pantoscopic tilt changes the sphere, adds or changes the cylinder component and changes the axis of the Rx. It also lowers the OC. How much it changes depends on the Rx and how much panto there is.

When a myope has to induce more panto to see better, it usually means they need more minus sphere and/or more minus cyl at axis 180.

How does the direction of the tilt affect vision?

I notice that when I increase the tilt the vision is worse and when I decrease the tilt (i.e. increase the gap between frame and cheeks) the vision is best.
I also see other lens wearers with some pretty dramatic tilt (both directions) and wonder how they can see at all

I would focus more on this. Or, if the patient is in a PAL it is more likely that the seg is too high. PALs and TVs don't mix well sometimes because people keep their TVs in low spots and/or they like to recline while watching.

I'm learning a lot here tonight! I have always been able to see a bit clearer when I tilt my glasses out away from my face. or in some cases just pull them straight out and not tilted. I am nearsighted and with presbyopia.
