    Converting eyesight test results

    Hi,

I've just been called to sit a medical and it states: 'The vision standard requirement is Binocular Vision of not less than 6/9, 6/12 unaided by glasses or contact lenses, with normal color vision'

My lens prescription is -4.5 in each eye. What does the above 6/9, 6/12 figure convert to?

I don't know the name of the two different measurements in question and consequently I cannot find an online converter, if such a thing exists. I would really appreciate any help. Thanks.

Not that I sit around doing this conversion all day but 6/9, 6/12 should convert to 20/30, 20/40.

For what it's worth 20/20 means that you can see as well as the average British marksman in the Crimean war. 20/40 means that you can see at 20 feet what that average marksman could see at 40 feet. Why one needs to convert this from a prescription I can't immagine (except for pilots and drivers license) as the corrected acuity is what matters. If your vision without glasses is 20/200 and 20/20 with what's the point of knowing?
Please note your uncorrected acuity is only loosely related to the amount of prescribed correction. Some people with the same correction see better or worse without correction than others.

    Ask your doctor

It appears the the original post wants to know what his/her VA would be....Please just ask your doctor. There would be more information required to be able to let you know what your visual acuity would be.

Although there is a correlation between VA and RX, the correlation is not mutually exclusive. for this reason, your prescribing Dr will be the only person who will be able to give you the real facts. I sugest you have a chat with them
