A general question about the expected edge thickness for a -7 -1.00 cyl lens in 1.6 index 49 frame, rectangular. A friend has ended up with glasses 8mm thick. Would you expect 1.6 to come out this thick?

It depends on the position of the pupil within the frame.Originally Posted by Golden Dragon
Have you got the pupil distance of the 'friend'?
It's 57
Assuming a centre thickness of 2mm then 8mm on the edge is about right.Originally Posted by Golden Dragon
Needs a more appropriate frame and a higher index lens if the thickness is a problem...AA
I'd go with a smaller, oval, preferably zyl frame for the best overall look. You can go with a metal as well, but look for a smaller more oval style and a higher index material for the lenses. Also, make sure the pupils are optical centered.
