    Zeiss reccomendations?

    Greetings everyone!

I am *finally* leaving ECCA and starting work with a small, high-end shop next week and I have a question for those out there that are familiar with Zeiss PALs as I have little knowledge of lenses outside of ECCA's offering...

My mother in law is in desperate need of new eyewear, as her current pair is really worn out (the AR coating has almost totally worn off). I have persuaded her to come by my new office and let me fit her with new lenses, however she's a little apprehensive as my wife has already tried twice with no real success (Hoya HI-Lux Wide and Varilux Panamic). I tried readjusting the frame every which way I can with no improvement in comfort (she complains of dizzyness and headaches and even saying it elevated her B.P. once, lol).

She is currently wearing Outlook and is quite happy with them, but I'm pretty sure that my new office does not carry this lens.My question is would the Brevity (given the F.H. of 18mm) be similar to the Outlook, or is there something I'm missing in the fitting, or perhaps another lens I can look into that has proven to work with similar situations?

    Here's the 'scrip...
    DV: OD: +1.50 +2.00 x92 // OS: +1.75 +1.00 x97 5? B.I.
    NV: +2.25 Add
    PD: OD: 30.5 // OS: 30.0 F.H.: 18.0

Thanks in advance for any help or advice, I appreciate it!

    ~E

We fit a lot of Zeiss lenses. I would go with a Gradal Top rather than the Brevity. Brevity is a short corridor with full power if I remember correctly at 14. The Top offers more intermediate similar to Outlook. Zeiss lenses are aspheric throughout their lenses vs. aspherized in the add area only.

Thanks for the quick reply, Bev! What is the lowest fitting height that you would reccomend for the Gradal Top?

Yes, if she doesn't require a particularly short fitting height, Gradal Top would be the recommended product. However, Gradal Brevity would still be a good alternative to Outlook, if she does need a lower fitting height.

The Top is a great lens but it does have a 6 mm drop so even though the lit says you can fit it at 18 --20 is better. If they are wearing the Outlook they probably would be better served by the Brevity. I love to put older prebyopes with high adds in the Top, they love it-especially at about 22 high. Outlook is carried by quite a few labs, your new place may be able to get it for you.

Is that 5 prism diopters base in in the OS?
What frame and lenses is she currently wearing? (My bad I see it's outlook)
How much has the rx changed?
Have the new frames been similar in style and shape?
Have the PD, prism thinning and base curve been matched to the old pair in your failed attempts? (Nevermind what you measured!)
Do you and your wife get along well with your mother in law :p

IF repeat IF you want to try something "new and improved" I'd suggest a Zeiss Individual!

    (I'd keep her in Outlook)
