    Hey Darryl,

I am curious about the term "free-form" I was under the impression that some company actually trademarked it. Do you happen to know anything about that? By the way liked the article , but you have written better more informative articles and that one almost felt rushed.

I think Shamir or someone may have tried to trademark a form of it at some point (which could be a particular combination of words or even a logo design), but I don't recall for certain. If it is ever approved as a trademark, I suspect that the trademark would have to apply to a pretty specific use of the word, since the word freeform is a common term (definition) that has been used to describe lens surfaces for some time by several companies. Generic terms cannot be trademarked.

Yes, it was really a lot of information to cover in the number of pages I had allotted to me. The magazine actually picked the title, the topic, and the subtopics; I had to fill in the rest. ;)

It was a great article all the same, I guess opticians are just spoiled in the fact that we get to read articles with more attention to detail.

Great article Darryl, thank you for sharing it with us. There is very little written on this subject that is not associated with a particular manufacturer. I for one would love to see more free form info published.

I'm glad you found it uesful. However, that article is actually pretty old. I would recommend the article Optics of Free-Form Lenses, if you are looking for something a little more relevant.

    Best regards,
    Darryl

Another great article! What has changed at Zeiss since this was written. I am waiting for a rep to contact me about the fancy new machine and have yet to hear from him/her.
I need trivex for all my drill jobs- 70%- is it in the near future?

    Respectfully,
    Craig
