Almost all local "County Fairs" have contests as well. And usually one of them is photography. Some sort by age groups, others by theme. So you just need to check around.

My wife and I have entered a few over the years. Me in photography and my wife with her quilts. Got a few ribbons, here-an-there, but not much money (which is fine with us). The fun is in the competition.
